So this is my picture for the Exile mini event in 
They say before you start a war you better know what you are fighting for.
Stupid that was the word she was looking for, the guard mare nodded in her mind as she looked out over the other horses in the herd. Cael was foolish even stupid for thinking that this would be their saving for keeping them all safe. The bachelors had had years of training they were even born fighting as her mother had once told her. Still the thought of them all being able to stand their ground was a nice one and maybe it would be enough to light a spark in this dark times to once more see a fire in their eyes. Gazing out over them Prime sighed loudly perhaps she was just a tad annoyed that this was yet another proof that the guards weren’t enough to keep the herd safe anymore. She wasn’t enough anymore..
Making her way down to the beach still looking around the herd she meets the blue eyes that she seems to be drowning in more often now than ever before now that they have crossed the land bridge. He had been so against going he had ran off from them, she hadn’t even asked for promotion to follow after him. It was her duty to look after every one, but with Rowan it was more than that. It wasn’t just because of duties she had gone after him. Her heart had dropped as she finally caught up with him only to find him lying still in the ashes crying. Holding him close to her she had managed to calm him down, when Dmitri had shown up unexpectedly. Even if Prime had gotten the stallion calm she was sure that seeing Dmitri had been the drop that made her friend rose from the ashes to fight against his fears. His courage had rose up like the fire that had destroyed their home as he spoke out his goal to free his long lost baby sister from the grips of his mad uncle and she had promised to keep him safe. To keep them all unharmed and happy..
But would she ever be happy? Kana’s words of love and wanting to find a mate had gone deep to Prime even if to the chestnut mare she had always gave some excuse as to why she couldn’t even think of any stallion that way. Just how would a pregnant guard defend the herd? Risking the life of her unborn to save the herd or her mate? If forced to choose one or the other which would she defend? Risking being distracted by feelings to keep her from doing her duty to those she had sworn to protect.
How dared she? She demanded such focus from her fellow herd members and still she found herself lost in thoughts of her….friend, she couldn’t help it. The worried feelings had sunken it’s teeth’s into her skin and where slowly ripping its way out. NO! She couldn’t afford being distracted by anything, not when so many lives may depend on her.
The guards were supposed to protect the herd but now Cael had given orders that every herd member should learn how to fend off a brute. It was madness but Prime if anyone would know that horses in great loss of hope just need something to ignite into a fiery spark. The little foal inside her longing for someone to look up to as she had done to her father still wised to see Cael as a role model. She didn’t go around being all lovestucked by some stallion, lovestucked?!
No I am not having a crush not now, not ever. I can’t be this foolish, I need to keep focus in order to be of any use. With those words the mare reared up onto her hind legs in order to cast a strong blow to the dammed sand under her. Ignoring her wondering mind repeating the act over and over until she felt her hooves trembling from exhaustion, lowering her head taking in a deep breath through her nostrils the mare casted a look around seeing her fellow herd members training the best they could.
We have to fight to survive,
But I don’t just wanna survive, I wanna live…
I want to protect him.
